About Me

Author, educator and trainer; Avanti wrote “Catching The Fading Ray”, which is a collection of folk tales from her native place. The second edition of the same book, with many new stories is available under “Dadi, Dantkatha and the Djinns”.

“The Kashmir That Was”, aspires to bring the time when Kashmir was ‘romanticized’.  The book is a collection of flashback moments where the unseen, unheard, unimagined side of Kashmir converge to reveal a new facets of the erstwhile state.

Her next book titled “Ancient and Lost Temples of Kashmir”, is a narration of the ruined and desolate temples of Kashmir. Through this work Avanti wishes to bring the focus on the cultural and historic loss of the ancient history of Kashmir.

Avanti’s co-authored book “Crossed and Knotted” is India’s first composite novel which is listed with the Limca Book of Records.  Her woman-centric short story is featured in the anthology “Defiant Dreams” and the book is in record with Commission on Status of Women, UN, and the Oprah Book Club. Her third anthology “When They Spoke” has stories personifying inanimate objects.  Her short story is listed in the “The Readomania book of Mythology”.

Her opinion pieces are published on various online and offline platforms like, “Daily Excelsior”, “Women’s Web”, “Madras Courier”, and “Early Times”. She is a fellow at ‘The Way of Writing with Natalie Goldberg”.

Writing to her is an unruffled world of her own, where her creations and people come to life. She hopes to travel to the hinterlands of India to understand the people, their way of life and their socio-cultural mooring.
